Don Thoma
Executive VP, Marketing
Iridium
Don Thoma is the executive vice president of Marketing for Iridium. In this role, Thoma is responsible for managing the development and execution of marketing and communications strategies for new and existing products, services and Iridium’s next-generation satellite constellation, “Iridium NEXT.” Thoma and the marketing team work in concert with the sales team to provide market analysis, competitive responses, marketing materials, promotions and training for Iridium’s channels and customers, all with the ultimate goal of building the brand and raising the company’s public profile. In addition, the marketing team has responsibility for product management, and coordinating the delivery of profitable products and services to Iridium’s customers. Since joining the company in 2001, Thoma has also served as the executive vice president of Data Services and Vertical Market Services, as well as executive vice president, Corporate Development. Thoma brings to Iridium 26 years of aerospace and telecommunications industry experience with a strong and versatile background in management, operations, marketing and business development. Before joining Iridium, he was the vice president of Marketing and Business Development for ObjectVideo, Inc., a start-up software development company delivering advanced streaming video products for the Internet. For the eight years preceding his tenure at ObjectVideo, Thoma held various positions of responsibility at ORBCOMM, ranging from senior director of Transportation to founder and general manager of the Vantage Tracking Solutions business unit. Prior to his time at ORBCOMM, he served as the director of Integration and Launch Operations for Orbital Sciences Corporation where he was responsible for payload integration and launch operations. Thoma served as a captain in the U.S. Air Force Space Division. He holds a bachelor’s degree in aeronautical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, a master’s degree in aerospace engineering from University of Southern California and a Master of Business Administration from the Harvard Business School.
